The East Hartford Gazette reported under the caption "TOWN FINANCE DIRECTOR: KNIEP WAS MAIN CAUSE OF JOB SECURITY" the following excerpts from Mike Walsh's letter. "Susan G. Kniep's most recent outrage, relates to to Charter revision..." Following an explanation of charter provisions, Walsh cited elements of Kniep's terms as mayor. "As I look back (on her service as mayor) I count an astonishing 31 different directors occupying 14 positions, including four different Finance Directors. Because Mrs. Kniep handpicked her directors by Charter, I can only draw the conclusion from this level of turnover that the individuals either were unqualified, or Mrs. Kniep created a hostile work environment or they were driven to leave town employment." The above appeaared on June 3

On June 10 under the caption: "KNIEP'S REVISIONIST THEORY OF HISTORY CONTINUES" Exerpts follow by Walsh. "...allow me to again carefully point out all the inaccuracies in Mrs. Kniep's letter. Then Walsh cited the lady's statement)that I personally 'drive up taxes' along with a number of other highly inaccurate charges.

One of the odd features of Kniep's wild charges is that almost all her statements are so easily rebutted with facts already known to Kniep, either with documents she knows about or is familar with as having held the mayor's office in the past. Evidently Mrs. Kniep is fully aware of these diviations from established procedures or available documents, but is merely attempting to stir continously her personally contrived political campaign. It becomes difficult to believe otherwise. "...Walsh concludes: "Through her writings, unfortunately, misinformation and controversy is the work product Mrs. Kniep seeks to give East Hartford. I believe that to be a shame...."
